ChatGPT + Sightkick: an SEO and GEO connector for your chats

Updated

To use Sightkick in ChatGPT, add it as a custom MCP server from Plugins on ChatGPT web and sign in. ChatGPT can then read your AI visibility, Search Console numbers and keyword research. On Business, Enterprise and Edu it can also write, schedule and publish pages.

Sightkick makes this page. Its numbers come from Sightkick's own site, sightkick.so.

Key takeaways

  • Web only, from Plugins. No Developer mode needed, no API key.
  • Your plan decides what ChatGPT can do. Business, Enterprise and Edu get reads and changes. Pro connects read-only.
  • The confirm comes from ChatGPT. Sightkick asks for none, so set Sightkick's app permission to Always ask.
  • ChatGPT's own writing is free on Sightkick. It uses none of the plan's article allowance.

How do you connect ChatGPT to Sightkick?

On ChatGPT web, open Plugins, add a custom MCP server with Sightkick's endpoint, pick OAuth and sign in. ChatGPT can't add the server itself, so these steps are yours, and you don't need to turn on Developer mode first:

  1. Go to Plugins.
  2. Select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
  3. Enter a name, Sightkick, and a description if you like.
  4. Under Connection, enter the endpoint.
  5. Configure authentication: Sightkick uses OAuth.
  6. Review the risk warning and select I understand and want to continue.
  7. Select Create as a plugin, then review the tools ChatGPT found.
  8. Install the plugin, start a new conversation, type @ and select Sightkick.
https://app.sightkick.so/mcp

These are the steps in OpenAI's guide, and the short version is on Sightkick's MCP page. Sightkick's server lists all 37 of its tools before anyone signs in, so the tool review in step 7 can see them. When ChatGPT asks you to authorize, sign in to Sightkick in your browser and pick the workspace for your site. Sightkick gives ChatGPT a refresh token, so the sign-in renews on its own.

Then check the connection. Ask ChatGPT:

Use Sightkick: call get_workspace. Tell me which workspace you're connected to, what's left on the plan this month and what setup is still missing.

Sightkick's "Connect your agent" popup ticks off when the first call arrives.

Which ChatGPT plans can add it?

Business, Enterprise and Edu get full MCP support, write actions included, and Pro connects with read and fetch only. That's per OpenAI's help page on custom MCP servers, which doesn't list Plus, Go or Free. On Business, only admins and owners can add a server and publish it for the workspace. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can grant the right to selected members. Custom MCP servers can't be added on mobile.

On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, the server stays private to you until an admin or owner publishes it: Admin Console, the ChatGPT workspace, Plugins, Manage Legacy Apps, Drafts, then Publish. Members then find it under Settings → Plugins.

Get the free AI visibility report first: no card, about 30 buyer questions asked in AI search. Or set up the account at app.sightkick.so/start and connect ChatGPT afterwards.

Which SEO connectors can you add to ChatGPT?

Any SEO tool that runs a remote MCP server on a public HTTPS address. ChatGPT connects to remote servers only, and a server on your own machine needs OpenAI's Secure MCP Tunnel.

Sightkick is one of those servers, and one connection covers the whole SEO and GEO loop: daily AI visibility tracking, Search Console data, keyword research, writing and scoring pages, publishing to your CMS on a schedule, and backlink outreach from your own inbox. The MCP server comes with both Sightkick packages.

What can ChatGPT do with Sightkick?

Five jobs that suit a chat, where ChatGPT reads Sightkick and you decide. Each shows what came back on sightkick.so.

Read the last two weeks of AI visibility

Use Sightkick's get_visibility summary for the last 14 days. How often were we named, by which AI model, and what changed against the 14 days before?

sightkick.so, 14 days to 4 November 2026: ChatGPT named Sightkick 14 times, up from 2 in the 14 days before, a sevenfold rise. AI Mode named it 7 times (6 before), Gemini once (0) and AI Overviews once (0). Across all 5,960 answers in the window, unbranded prompts named Sightkick 23 times.

Check one buyer question

Use Sightkick's get_prompts. Over the last 30 days, did AI answers name us for "Which SEO apps or connectors can I add to ChatGPT?" Compare it with our branded prompts.

sightkick.so, 30 days to 4 November 2026: 4 answers, Sightkick named in none. The branded prompt "Does Sightkick have an MCP server I can connect to ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor?" was named and cited in all 4. A buyer who already knows the name finds Sightkick. One who asks the category question doesn't, yet.

See which sources AI answers lean on

Use Sightkick's get_visibility: which domains do AI answers cite most for our tracked prompts? Rank the top five.

In Sightkick's own stored answers for sightkick.so's prompts (get_visibility sources, 14 days to 4 November 2026), the most-cited domains were semrush.com with 1,489 citations, youtube.com 1,059, reddit.com 964, tryprofound.com 860 and peec.ai 816. These are counts from our runs, not the sites' own figures. tryprofound.com and peec.ai are rivals' own sites. youtube.com and reddit.com are places anyone can publish.

Find pages Google shows but nobody clicks

Use Sightkick's get_search_console for the last 28 days. List pages with impressions but no clicks, with their average position, and say what you'd change first.

sightkick.so, 7 October to 3 November 2026: /blog/best-llm-optimization-service-ai-products had 606 impressions at position 53, /blog/best-ai-search-visibility-tools-2026 had 574 at 23.6 and /blog/seo-competitor-analysis had 462 at 34.5. None got a click.

Research the next keyword

Use Sightkick's research_keywords for "chatgpt seo" in the US. Give me volume, trend and difficulty, and split the terms into "using ChatGPT for SEO" and "getting cited by ChatGPT".

sightkick.so, 4 November 2026: "chatgpt seo tools" had 480 searches a month, "chatgpt for seo" 390 and "chatgpt seo tool" 110. Google reads "chatgpt for seo" as getting cited by ChatGPT, so a page about ChatGPT SEO tools targets the other two. Each search counts against the plan's keyword searches, 100 a month on both packages, and the answer says what's left.

Method: Sightkick asks each of sightkick.so's 100 tracked prompts daily in ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode and stores every answer. Search Console numbers come through get_search_console, keyword numbers through research_keywords.

On Business, Enterprise and Edu, ChatGPT can also draft a page in Sightkick, score it against the four pillars, fix what the checklist flags and schedule it.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is OpenAI's AI assistant, first released as a research preview in 2022. It runs on the web, in desktop apps and on iOS and Android.

OpenAI's help pages now call outside connections "apps", and bundle apps and skills into "plugins". Older screens and guides say "connectors". Codex, OpenAI's coding agent, is a separate product with its own command for Sightkick: see Codex + Sightkick.

Is it safe to connect ChatGPT?

Yes, with Sightkick's app permission on Always ask. ChatGPT's approval is the only confirm, because Sightkick never asks for one.

  • One site per grant. The sign-in binds ChatGPT to the workspace you pick on the consent screen. A grant for one site can't read or touch another.
  • What ChatGPT can change. With full MCP, whatever you can do in the Sightkick app, except four things that stay yours: signing in, entering the first card, ending a trial early and deciding who gets access.
  • Every call is on the record. Each call lands in Sightkick's activity feed against the client that made it.
  • ChatGPT's permissions. OpenAI says ChatGPT may ask before write actions, based on app permissions and the action's context, and may block some especially risky actions. The options are Always ask, Allow read actions, Allow low-risk actions and Allow all actions.
  • Destructive actions are marked. Deleting something, taking a page down and sending an email are marked destructive, so ChatGPT can ask you first. Every agent edit to a live page is kept and can be undone.
  • Admins can trim the tool list. On Enterprise and Edu, admins choose which actions an app may take before publishing it. Leave out publish_page or send_outreach if ChatGPT should only advise.
  • A human gate inside Sightkick. Set Sightkick's jobs to Manual, and ask ChatGPT to create pages without a day. They wait in Unscheduled until you give them one.
  • Untrusted text stays data. OpenAI warns that untrusted servers can raise prompt-injection risk. Sightkick marks text from other people's pages, AI answers and emails as untrusted, so ChatGPT reads it as data, not as instructions.

To revoke ChatGPT's access, disconnect it in Sightkick under Settings → Agents.

How does ChatGPT compare with other agents on Sightkick?

ChatGPT and Claude are chat apps where a person adds the server. Claude Code and Codex connect from a terminal and can run unattended on an API key.

Troubleshooting

Why does Plugins have no Add custom MCP server?

Usually the plan or the role. See which plans can add it, above: OpenAI's help page doesn't list Plus, Go or Free, and adding one works on ChatGPT web, not in the phone apps.

If your account still shows the older Apps screens, OpenAI's legacy path is Settings → Apps → Create: enter the endpoint, pick the authentication, select Scan Tools, finish the sign-in, then Create. The draft shows under Settings → Apps → Enabled Apps with a Dev label.

Why does every tool say the connection isn't tied to a Sightkick workspace?

A new account's sign-in finished before its workspace existed. Finish setting up at app.sightkick.so/start: sign in, confirm the site, start the trial or the plan. Then reconnect: run the sign-in again, or remove the server in Plugins and add it back.

Why does ChatGPT read fine but every change fails?

On Pro, OpenAI allows custom servers to read and fetch only. On Business, a member can't use an app an admin hasn't published. On Enterprise and Edu, the action may be switched off in the app's action control. And a Deny on ChatGPT's approval card stops that one action.

Why does a tool call error after Sightkick changes a tool?

ChatGPT keeps a frozen snapshot of an approved server's tools. Later changes don't apply until an admin refreshes the tool list in workspace settings and publishes the update. For a server you connected yourself, open it in Plugins and select Refresh.

FAQ

What does it cost?

Sightkick Standard is $39 a month, or $31 billed yearly: your agent writes the pages and Sightkick does the rest. Pro is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, and adds 30 articles a month written and published by Sightkick. Both start with a 7-day free trial that takes a card and charges nothing for 7 days. Your ChatGPT plan is billed by OpenAI.

Do I need an API key?

No. ChatGPT signs in with OAuth and you pick the workspace on the consent screen. A key, from Settings → Agents in Sightkick, is for scripts and scheduled jobs that use the CLI or the HTTP API.

Will ChatGPT publish without asking?

Not on Always ask. Sightkick doesn't ask for a confirm, so the gate is ChatGPT's app permissions, and a page without a day waits in Unscheduled either way.

Does it run on a schedule?

Sightkick's own jobs do: prompts are asked every day and pages go live on their day, without ChatGPT. OpenAI's help pages don't say whether ChatGPT's scheduled tasks can call a custom MCP server.

Will this get my site named in ChatGPT's answers?

No tool can promise a mention. Sightkick asks your buyer prompts in ChatGPT every day when ChatGPT is one of your AI models, and does the work that gets a brand named: research, articles published to your site and citations on the pages AI trusts. For how ChatGPT picks sources, read how to get your brand recommended by ChatGPT.

Does ChatGPT's writing use my Sightkick article allowance?

No. A draft ChatGPT writes runs on your ChatGPT subscription. Only articles you hand to Sightkick's own pipeline draw on the allowance.
