Shopify + Sightkick: AI SEO for your store's blog and pages
Updated
Sightkick publishes to your Shopify store: blog posts written by Sightkick, your AI agent or you, each on its day, plus comparison, alternatives, integration and use-case pages as store pages. It connects through a small app you create in Shopify's Dev Dashboard, in about 3 minutes.
Sightkick makes this page and the integration it describes. Shopify facts are from Shopify's own help and developer docs, read in November 2026.
Key takeaways
- The app is your store's own and holds five scopes: content, files and URL redirects. No products, orders or customers.
- Blog posts go to your blog. Comparison and other typed pages go to /pages/, because Shopify fixes the shape of a store's addresses.
- Sightkick can also rewrite the SEO title and meta description of store pages and blog posts it didn't write, one measured, undoable change at a time.
- Every written page with a day goes live on that day, exactly as written. Pages without a day wait.
How do you connect a Shopify store to Sightkick?
Your agent follows sightkick.so/connect/shopify.md in five steps. Steps 2 and 3 happen in your Shopify admin and Dev Dashboard, so you do them while the agent walks you through, or the agent does them if it works in your browser. You can also connect by hand in Sightkick: Settings → Publishing, "Set it up yourself". Every platform Sightkick publishes to is on Integrations → Publishing.
New to Sightkick? Tell your agent to set it up by sightkick.so/llms.txt, or see where you stand first with the free AI visibility report (no card).
- Connect to Sightkick. If Sightkick's MCP server (https://app.sightkick.so/mcp, streamable HTTP, OAuth) isn't connected yet, your agent adds it by sightkick.so/connect/agent.md (or see connecting your agent), and its sign-in picks your workspace. The agent reads the workspace's sites (get_settings, view: sites). A Shopify connection for this store with status connected means you're done. A site has one publishing destination, so a second connection is refused: if another one is there, the agent asks whether to move and removes it only on your yes (update_connections, action: remove).
- Check the store has a blog. In the Shopify admin, Content → Blog posts. If the store has no blog, add one there: Manage blogs → Add blog.
- Create the app. Only the store's owner or a staff member with Shopify's App developer role can make it.
- Open https://dev.shopify.com/dashboard, then Apps → Create app → "Start from Dev Dashboard". Name it Sightkick.
- Versions → Create version. Paste these into Scopes, untick "Embed app in Shopify admin" and leave the rest as it is:
read_content,write_content,read_files,write_files,write_online_store_navigation - Click Release, then Install app, and pick the store.
- On the app's overview, copy its Client ID and Client secret.
- Connect. The agent calls update_connections with action connect_shopify, shopDomain (yourstore.myshopify.com) and clientId and clientSecret, or accessToken.
Sightkick publishes to the blog with the handle news, else the store's first blog, with the store's name as the author. With check: true, the call lists the blogs and stores nothing. Then call again with blogId and authorName. If the answer has missingScopes, the app lacks those scopes: images stay on Sightkick's servers until you add them, release a new version and reinstall.
update_connections {"action": "connect_shopify", "shopDomain": "yourstore.myshopify.com", "clientId": "<Client ID>", "clientSecret": "<Client secret>", "check": true} - Test. update_connections with action test and the connectionId. ok: true means Sightkick can publish.
The connection then shows in Sightkick under Settings → Publishing, where you change or remove it.
Where does Shopify put Sightkick's pages?
Blog posts go under /blogs/ and the blog's handle, so a post on the default News blog is at /blogs/news/<slug>. Comparison, alternatives, integration and use-case pages go under /pages/, at /pages/<folder>-<slug>: a comparison with Peec AI is /pages/vs-peec-ai, not /vs/peec-ai.
Shopify sets the shape of a store's addresses. Its help on pages lets you edit the URL handle, the part after /pages/, and its Liquid reference shows the same shapes for pages and articles. So typed pages can't sit in folders of their own on Shopify, the way they do on WordPress. In practice:
- The address still carries the page's keyword. The folder name moves into the handle, behind /pages/.
- They are store pages, not blog posts, so they don't show in the blog's list.
- Shopify puts a page in your navigation through a menu link. Add one under Content → Menus for each page you want there.
- Shopify's sitemap lists pages and blog posts by itself, so search engines find them without a menu link.
- They render with your theme's page template, like your About page.
Can Sightkick improve pages it didn't write on Shopify?
Yes, two fields only: the SEO title and meta description of your store pages and blog posts, through the content scopes the app already holds. It picks pages Google shows often but few people click, changes one at a time, measures clicks in Search Console and undoes a change that loses.
- Which fields. Shopify's own SEO title and description for the page. Never its text, its handle or its address.
- How fast. At most two new changes a week, one going out a day.
- Auto or Manual. The Improvements job decides: Auto sends each change, Manual waits for your click. The trial sends nothing by itself.
- Undoable. The old title and description are stored first. If you edited either since, Sightkick leaves your version alone.
- Not yet. Products and collections. They would need product scopes the app doesn't ask for.
Is it safe to give Sightkick a Shopify app?
Yes, within five scopes. The app is your store's own and holds only the scopes you pasted. Shopify's access-scope reference says what each covers:
- read_content and write_content: articles, blogs, comments and pages.
- read_files and write_files: the store's files, such as images and videos.
- write_online_store_navigation: URL redirects.
Products, orders and customers have scopes of their own in Shopify, and the app asks for none of them.
In Sightkick, every change your agent makes is logged in the activity feed under its name. Taking a page down is marked destructive, so your agent's app asks you first. Every agent edit to a live page is kept and can be undone, and an edit made on an old copy of a live page is refused. Signing in, the first card, ending a trial early and who gets access stay yours, as do the Client secret and the app itself.
Want to read each page before it's live? Set Sightkick's jobs to Manual and have your agent write drafts only. Pages without a day wait in Unscheduled.
What does Sightkick publish to the store?
A blog post in the blog you picked at connect, under the store's name or the author you set. Each page is one record: title, slug, the body in clean semantic HTML, a meta title and description, an excerpt, tags, images and internal links. With the files scopes in place, its images are uploaded to Shopify. Pages Sightkick writes are researched, with every claim cited or cut, and scored on four pillars: answers the search, says something new, can be trusted, easy to quote. Your agent's drafts can be scored the same way.
What can you ask your agent about AI answers?
The numbers below are Sightkick's own, from its tracking of sightkick.so, which publishes through a webhook, not Shopify. Tracking AI answers doesn't depend on how a site publishes. Method: 85 unbranded and 15 branded prompts asked daily in ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, 25 October to 7 November 2026. Citation counts are what those answers cited, as Sightkick recorded them.
Which kinds of pages do AI answers cite?
Across the AI answers you track for us, which page types get cited most?In Sightkick's tracking for sightkick.so: product pages 2,912 citations, listicles 1,266, guides 431, discussions 158, videos 74. A store already has product pages. Listicles and guides are what its blog can add.
Which sites do those answers lean on?
Which domains do AI answers in our category cite most, and which single pages?Sightkick's record of the sources cited in those answers, same window: semrush.com 1,446 citations, youtube.com 1,174, reddit.com 963, tryprofound.com 849, peec.ai 752, otterly.ai 582 and zapier.com 513, where one "9 best AI visibility tools" list was cited 336 times. A page like that is one to be listed on, and Sightkick finds such pages and pitches for a place on them.
Does AI search name us when nobody asks for us?
How often were we named in answers to unbranded prompts, and to branded ones?sightkick.so was named in 20 of 5,780 answers to unbranded prompts (0.3%), and in 165 of 220 answers to branded ones (75%). AI answers know the brand when asked about it, and rarely bring it up by themselves.
What tone do the answers take?
When AI answers mention us unasked, how often do they recommend us, cite us, and in what tone?Of those 20 unbranded mentions: recommended 12 times, sightkick.so cited 21 times. Sentiment: 12 positive, 5 neutral, 3 mixed, 0 negative.
What are the ways to publish blog posts on Shopify?
Three: by hand, with Shopify's Sidekick in the admin, or through Sightkick. Sidekick drafts in the editor and you publish. Sightkick writes from research and publishes on the page's day.
| Way to publish | Who writes it | What it starts from | How it goes live | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| By hand | You, in Content → Blog posts | What you know | You publish it, or schedule it | Your time |
| Sidekick, in the Shopify admin | Sidekick drafts the title and body in the blog post editor. You edit | Your prompt: topic, tone, instructions. Shopify says to check it closely: the text can include facts drawn from related content | You click Save and publish | Not stated on Shopify's help page |
| Sightkick | Your agent, Sightkick (30 a month on Pro) or you | Keyword research and the AI answers Sightkick tracks for your buyers' questions. Every claim cited or cut | Published to your blog on its day, from Sightkick's publishing calendar | From $39 a month ($31 billed yearly) |

How do you fix a Shopify connection?
Read the error from the failed step: it names the fix. Almost every case is a missing role, missing scopes or a second publishing connection.
- You can't open the Dev Dashboard or create the app. Per Shopify's help on custom apps, creating one in the Dev Dashboard takes the App developer role (on Shopify Plus, a custom role with "Build and manage apps"). Collaborator accounts can't reach the Dev Dashboard.
- The connect answer lists missingScopes. Add the missing scopes to a new version, release it and reinstall the app. Until then, images stay on Sightkick's servers.
- Your store has an older custom app. One made in the admin before 2026 can connect with its shpat_ token as accessToken.
- Posts go to the wrong blog or carry the wrong author. Connect with check: true to list the blogs, then pass blogId and authorName.
- The connection is refused. The site already has a publishing destination. Remove it under Settings → Publishing, then connect Shopify.
- Sightkick says there's no workspace. The sign-in finished before the workspace existed. Finish setup at app.sightkick.so/start, then sign in again.
- The agent has no browser for the sign-in. Make an API key under Settings → Agents, New key, and send it as Authorization: Bearer <key>. See the API and the CLI.
FAQ
Can Sightkick do AI SEO for a Shopify store?
Yes, for the store's blog and pages. Sightkick tracks how AI answers treat your buyers' questions, researches keywords and publishes pages to your Shopify store. Your agent writes the pages on Standard, and Sightkick writes 30 a month on Pro. Product pages aren't written or changed.
What does it cost?
Standard is $39 a month ($31 billed yearly). Pro is $99 a month ($79 billed yearly). Both have a 7-day free trial with a card: nothing is charged for 7 days, and cancelling in time costs nothing.
Does it need an API key?
Not a Sightkick one. Shopify needs the app's Client ID and Client secret, or an older app's shpat_ token. Your agent signs in to Sightkick's MCP server instead of using a key.
Does Sightkick publish without asking?
A written page with a day goes live on that day, as written. Without a day, it waits in Unscheduled until you or your agent give it one.
Why do some pages have /pages/ in the address?
Shopify serves a store's standalone pages under /pages/ and blog posts under /blogs/. Sightkick's comparison and alternatives pages are standalone pages, so they go under /pages/, with the folder name at the start of the handle.
Can Sightkick change my products or orders?
No. The app's scopes cover content, files and URL redirects only.
Will new pages appear in my store's menu?
Not by themselves. Shopify shows a page in the navigation once a menu links to it, so add a link under Content → Menus for any page you want there.
